To the Mothers Around the World

Canada/ US - Happy Mothers Day
Mauritius- fete des meres
Germany - Muttertag
Czech republic - den matek
France - fete des meres
Portugal - feliz dia da mae
Pakistan - ammee (mother)
Singapore - mu qin jie
With mothers day coming up in just a few weeks, I would like to wish a Happy Mothers Day to the mothers across the world. The above countries may seem somewhat random, but these are the countries around the world where the decorated delectables blog has been viewed!

I'm really excited to begin planning, designing and putting together mothers day cookies and arrangements, since who is more inspiring than a mother? Also, some of my favourite shapes and designs come to mind when I think of mothers day - flowers, watering cans, fruits/veggies, hearts, teapots, sentimental messages, chocolate, butterflies, mom herself(!) and more.

Brother/Sister Birthday Cookies

These arrangements were made for a joint birthday party for a brother/sister team. The celebration happened to land on Easter this year, hence the Easter bunny getting in on the action. These were a bit different than the typical decorated delectables bouquet because they were actually a combination of cookie bouquet and cookie platter, which emphasized the mugs that the client picked out for the occassion.

These were made to celebrate Randy's 50th birthday this year. These were some of the cookies that went around the bottom of the arrangement. They gave me the opportunity to try out some number cookies, and what better number to start out with than 50?

I also had the chance to try out some tool cookies. As you can see, all of these cookies are already packaged and ready to go into the arrangement. This is what happens when the baker/decorator/packager gets excited and forgets to take pictures of the cookies before they are packaged!

These are a few of the cookies that went into Becky's arrangement. Happy Birthday! Since the party fell on Easter, I used a lot of bright Easter colours and designs.

This one was designed after the cornflower pattern that is on the corning ware dishes I grew up using. Sometimes the best inspiration and designs for cookies come from looking at the actual real life object!

This is what they looked like all put together. I loved designing the arrangements and colours around the mugs that the client provided for the arrangement. I'm sure that this type of arrangement would look great using the traditional clay pots as well!

Sugar Cookies Make Great...Theatre Props?

Yes, theatre props. Apparently I forgot to add theatrical productions to my mental list of occasions that decorated sugar cookies are great for. These were made for a Good Friday production at a local church. Edible flowers were needed for one of the scenes, I put together a couple of daisy cookies.

The play was in the theatre of the absurd style and had a bit of an abstract theme to it so that was the inspiration for these cookies - think Alice in Wonderland. It was a great opportunity to try out new daisy designs and I hope to use a few of these again in the future!

Soccer Star Cookies

These are some soccer cookies that I put together for a team get together.

I would like to begin by apologizing to the world of soccer. Yes, the black part of the soccer ball has one too many sides. I would also like to apologize to the world of science, as I have been made aware that this shape that I created is actually physically impossible. To be honest, I'm not much of a soccer fan. The closest I have gotten to playing soccer in the last few years is playing ultimate Frisbee in soccer cleats. But that's okay. I was really happy to be able to make these cookies. I saw them as a bit of a challenge and had a lot of fun making them.

But what's the point of a soccer ball cookie if there is no one to kick it around?

My favourite part of these were their little cleats and the nail polish on their fingers. These little cookies are pretty, but they can definitely kick some grass!

I designed this one after my own likeness. Just a little bit crazy looking.

...and here is the final product. The soccer ball has to be the most difficult to turn into a cookie. Now that I have conquered it, I am ready to take on any sport that comes my way!

Easter Joy

I would like to pretend that I was clever and purposely selected and arranged these cookies to spell the word Joy, but really I didn't. This was a complete coincidence. I just selected a couple of cookies that I liked the looks of and happened to notice they made a word while I was flipping through the images on my camera. I am quite proud of my subconscious cookie spelling abilities, and fully intend to spell things with cookies again in the future. Yet another use for sugar cookies, to send subliminal messages to those you love!

On another note, below are a small sample of the Easter cookies I created this week in order for the holiday. I hope the make everyone's day just a little bit brighter!

This is a photo of an Easter themed bouquet that my sister took to work in order to bring a little bit of Easter joy to each of her coworkers. I love all of the bright, Springy colours I get to use this time of year.

These were some individual Easter cookie favours I created for another work group. These are some of my favourite shapes to decorate, I get to be creative and try out all kinds of designs. The only problem with butterflies is that if you do something really cool on one wing, you have to be able to repeat it on the other side!

This Easter bouquet found a lovely Easter tree to pose with on the front porch of its recipient.

Even the Easter bunny got in on the action!

This has to be my favourite cookie of this Easter season, if not my favourite cookie that I have ever made. I have been affectionately calling it "zebrabbit". Look for more zebra print in the future, I had way too much fun making this cookie to stop here!

These are just a a sample of the over 70 Easter cookies that were put together this week. Let me know what you think!

 A couple of Spring Chickens!

And last but not least, the ever popular carrot cookie. Contrary to popular belief, it is not healthier than any of the other designs, but if you would like to think that it is, go ahead!

Dozens of Daisies

Okay, so only one dozen this week.
These were a special order for my godmother/aunt who ordered a dozen plain circular icing with plain white icing. I knew she was just trying to make it easy for me, and couldn't bear to make something so simple considering.

These are probably my favourite design to make. You can probably tell that I'm addicted to this swirly pattern.

I also got to try out my new pink pearl dust (its on the flowers with the pink backgrounds, but it doesn't photograph very well). You can see it better on the babies' cheeks in my welcome to the world post. Edible sparkles, what could be better?

For The Man Who Has Everything

I don't know about everyone else, but my father has everything. In fact, he has 3 or 4 of everything. If you can figure out something he doesn't have, he guesses, or, in the case of my sister, tricks you into telling him what it is. Every time. I have found the solution! It's cookies of course. Tool cookies! A combination of two of my father's favourite things. What father does not like tools and cookies? I picked up these tool cookie cutters for fathers everywhere! Now I can't wait to use them. Hurry up Father's Day!

Spring Bridal Shower Cookies

I made these for a bride who is crazy lucky enough to be marrying into the family! I used spring colours for a spring bride and tried out some new designs that I haven't had a chance to use yet. These work great as decor and can be enjoyed by the bride and groom later, eaten as the party goes on or taken home later as favors. Congrats Katie + Cory!

Welcome to the World Little Guy!

Thanks to everyone who has supported decorated delectables so far (since you are reading this,  this includes you!) This bouquet was decorated delectables first real order! They were made for a baby shower to celebrate the upcomming arrival of a baby boy. After the shower they will be used as favors  -what a great idea! I hope you and the new mother like them as much as I do!

Cheeky Cookies

These are some cookies that I made just for fun. No, I do not own bum shaped cookie cutters, they are hearts with the tip cut off. They work great for a bachelorette part or that cheeky aunt who enjoys that type of thing!
